I would wake up on a yacht in a port in Santorini in Greece with nothing to do all day.

The first answer was great…so simple but so many emotions, you could write a novel about that kid from his answer.

I’m not completely happy with my life, but if I am to achive anything in this world I must press forward from where I am to go where I want to be. Which will be the real answer to that questtion. For know however, I don’t know.

Beautiful film. It made me very emotional on two levels though. First the film as a whole and its raw human thought. You can see the thought process happening in the way there faces look. And secondly because of the accents.

Overdone. The filmmaker tried to hard to make this seem important. The question isn’t that poignant, it’s not that emotional but that didn’t stop the filmmaker from treating it like it would change the world.

I too liked the first young mans answer. It was raw and honest. I would have searched for some profound thing to say, but anything would have paled by comparison. Happiness most often presents itself in simple things, and we miss out on it if we fail to recognize and appreciate it when it wanders into our lives. Thank you who ever you are for giving me cause to reflect on whats important!

I’m not sure why I liked this so much. I mean, it was put together really well, but I’m not sure why I thought it was so emotional. Maybe the music? Or maybe I want to answer the question myself… which I’m not really sure of.

Id like to wake 2 months ago up in canada where my dad was when he died on august the 18th 2009. I’d like to go to the golf course with him where he died and save his life, I’m trained to do CPR and noone performed it on him until 20-30 mins later. I just want my Dad back.

Pretty good video. It’s a great concept, and well executed. My only problem is that goddamn spastic focus they’ve got going on there. What’s up with that? It’s like it’s trying to be artsy, but just comes off as obnoxious… Other than that though, good little movie.

Well, first off, this video is the first thing that has made me cry in awhile now. I’m not exactly sure, perhaps it is just the music and the atmosphere, or perhaps it is the question itself. I don’t see how some say this isn’t a profound question, because it truly is. For instance, there are limitless possibilities for an answer. Some could just be plain simple, and straightforward, like a location, but obviously, it would only mean something to that specific person, but then you could have the person who wishes to go back in time and wake up before what they consider their biggest mistake, in theory, this would have an enormous effect, by changing just one thing, there would be endless repercussions. But, that’s besides the point, the real beauty of this was the spontaneity of it, just capturing that thought process; unguarded and raw with the human emotion and mind. It’s a wonderful thing. And also, the first mans answer was by far my favorite. It was the best representation of the human, one who knows that there should be an answer more profound but cannot find it, or could, but just didn’t admit it to their-self. Everything about this first answer was captured beautifully. And as to the quality of filming, I understand that most have seen the few things that weren’t up to par, but I disagree with those who said that these harmed the video overall. Actually I believe that it added to it, made it more real, instead of some elaborate plan that just wouldn’t seem as…normal. But yeah, this hit me and I’m still not sure why, so, great job.

This was fascinating. Not just the video itself, but the comments too. I can agree with the people who feel that it was a poorly done video, and then I can’t, because I really liked it.

I believe that the shoddy camera work was part of the mood they where trying to create. It seems to have worked for those it didn’t put off of the whole thing.

As for the answers to the questions, there’s a serious, and an idealistic answer I came up with.

In all seriousness, I’d like to wake up where I went to sleep. I think most of us would.

However, if we’re talking about the ideal place to BE, I’ll take a cabin on the side of a snowy mountain. Nice fireplace, plenty of wood and hot coco, and a large supply of new good books. (I’ll take a girl while I’m at it)

Your beautiful moving comments brought tears to my eyes. Only a few days ago I was discussing with my sister how perfect Christmas was when we lived at our Grand parents. This was when I was most happiest. If I could wake up anywhere, it would be at my grand parents house on Christmas morning, and of course they would still be alive.

I think it would be interesting to ask this question in several other countries to see how the answers varied. I can imagine the answers Americans would give considering that I want to be anywhere but where I currently am lol.

Good video. Asking a group of people an open question that breaks up the monotony of the day is a win-win for all. I think you should edit it done though. No need for any more than 5 mins. I have to say I found it very anticlimactic, I was anticipating a message or something, like ‘X statistic of people don’t even have a bed to wake up in’ or ‘most people choose to wake up in their own bed’, but perhaps it’s better left with an open ending.

The first answer was intriguing, it went downhill after that, maybe if they’d kept the question a mystery till the end ? or if the people who answered, “In their own bed at home” were hooked up to a polygraph test, because that is easily a ‘trained’ answer, I can hear them thinking, “I MUST seem content with my life with an answer like that!” or “This question must have a purpose, what are they testing for?” I dunno.

I became upset when I realised (firstly, what the question was, and secondly) what my first real thought for an answer was… I would like to be woken up in the bed of the girl I loved, by the soft kiss she would plant on my cheek. my second answer was in the past/future/alternate reality/happy/content/never in this reality bullshit etc etc

A little too Sigur Ros for my tastes – Felt a bit lifted from Heima. The filter on the camera and the focus was so not called for. Otherwise intriguing idea with some draggy editing.

Wow… aside from all the people freaking out over minor grammar points and religious fine points, I’d say this is a great post with some good comments to follow. I’m not from London, but go there often and I know that tunnel. It runs from Belvedere Road to Waterloo Station. And 8 times out of 10, someone is there playing music for money. A small but well chosen place for something contemplative.

Where would I wake up? I could imagine a lot of places… in the better part of past relationships, in cool and quiet future spaces, in moments before a bad decision, in moments after anticipated resolution… but quite frankly, I’d love most to wake up in the morning on a Saturday, in the bed we have now, with our two children — ages five and three — having just crawled in to wake us.

A cliché? Perhaps.

But I wouldn’t want to miss a minute of them or trade away all the benefit and consequence, surprises or challenges, and even disappointments, that I have coming due over the rest of my lifetime. Not for anything

P.S. To someone who said “in the arms of Christ”… religious disputes aside, wouldn’t the Christ the majority purport to believe in want you to be out there doing something, making something, loving someone… rather than sinking prematurely and by choice into some kind of eternal indulgent refuge of bliss and safety? I don’t mean to say you can’t or shouldn’t believe. Just that to believe that a great being has given you the gift to “be” yourself… and then not to treat that gift as a verb… it seems tragic rather than beautiful.

Its an interesting question. What it means to me, and what it looks like it means to some others: where do you want to be, and why aren’t you there right now?

A lot of the people give an answer that is achievable, and it makes me wonder why they aren’t there, and why I’m not exactly where I want to be. Just makes me want to go out and find exactly what I want in life.

as far as the film goes, i believe it the choice of a more open location would have helped a great deal- also, better camera work and editing… this film is a good first attempt- it should have been put in the shelf and redone with an eye towards cleaner presentation- but that’s just my view of things.

you’re right I did think of the little things that I missed out on or didn’t realize I missed.

My two answers were: At my house from where I grew up on a sunday with my golden retreiver “goldie” still sleeping at the foot of my bed with the smell of breakfast wafting through the door.

My other would be Valentines Day 5th grade, I asked out a girl for the very first time and It was such a rush, I was so nervous when I asked her, she just gave me a kiss on the cheek and said yes. Believe me that whole day I felt like I could defy gravity. I have had many more girlfriends since then but that first time, was pretty special.

The comment I find most appropriate for this video is one containing my own answer to the question, I didn’t think about it for long, only while the video was running.

If I could wake up anywhere it would be in the exact time that I am in now, in a room that is infinitely large surrounding only my bed and inside of this room, filling every inch would be everyone who has ever left my life without a suitable goodbye. Friends I loved who moved away and gradually fell into a new life and let the old one disappear, parents and grandparents who had died without me being able to tell them “I love you” one last time. This was totally photoshopped. I can tell by the pixels, and I’ve seen quite a few photoshops in my day.

Has any one seen that body spray commercial in that action world, because I would wake up in a world like that where everyday is full of awesomeness. I would still remember how it used to be so it would be that much more awesome. There would be explosions and and car crashes but nobody would be injured only minor cuts and bruises. It would be a whole lot like John McLain’s life only there would probably be dinosaurs too. Oh, and of course my most dearest love would be there as well.

So many implications to that question, even though it is simply stated, the ramifications in reality are what trip me up. ALL of you are missing the point of this film…it is very sad. The point is this..”Where would you want to wake up?” and everyone has an answer but did you see the violin lady who was HOMELESS in the background at all…NOPE you sure didn’t. That’s where she has to wake up everyday in the slums of London. Not in America, not on the beach, and not in some “paradise”. Fifty people in London missed the point in this video, countless more missed the point online. Truly sad.

This video was slightly self aggrandizing. The music was great, probably belonged in a noir drama film. The question in itself was stupid. Since when do people know what they need? They only know what they think they want. Without goals, without ideas, without thought, man would go mad. In 50 years, they would wake up exactly where they are supposed to be.
The life they lead now could be without limits and yet, wishful thinking dominated these people’s minds.

i dont really think the point was a ‘physical’ “where” as in making people seem ungraetful because they actually have a choice. i really believe that the homeless lady in the background was a poignant coincidence which they probably decided would add another beautiful layer to the film. i think it was intended to make people really think about all the choices they have and whether they actually want to be where they are. i have no idea but thats what i thought about, i deffinantly did not think i shouldnt even be thinking about my future because someone else hardly has one. i reckon its about making the best of what you have, and if you hate it, dont give up just ask yourself- why not try and find your own paradise?

This video plunged me into three emotions: shock, awe, and relief. I was shocked at how simple some answers were, and yet how much difference there still was. Awe came from the simple fact of seeing so many people happy in what, 8 minutes and 23 seconds? And my relief came when so many people were content where they were.

My first answer would be – and I know it’s corny, but…- in a world I create, I mold, I control, I manipulate. I’m a control-freak, but I think a lot of people might have this answer. But now that I think about it, what enjoyment could I get from that? It’s like playing baseball with out a ball. So, I guess my final answer would be….Where my creativity could flow freely, my loved and dear ones are near me, and the world is content for a day, no war, no feuds, no killings.

The first guy… I love that moment. It was a really impressive vid, so thank you very very much!!

I think the reason why most people take so long is because they dont realize they are already where they want to be, so it takes them a long time imagining being anywehre else.

This video also reminds me of a lecture I saw online where they compared the happiness of two people after a life changing event. One Person was a lottery winner and the other was a parapalegic. The speaker asked the audidence which they would prefer, and most people, hands down prefered being the lottery winner and thought they would be happier.
when shown the results, a year later after both events, both groups of people reported being just as happy as they were before.
what does that tell us?
Happiness starts with being greatful with what you already have.
